Collison 2022 marked the next step for us. In our second event in North America for 2022, we got to showcase our ambition to cross borders reaching now the global retail market.

Like most industry events, Collision registered record attendance after being held virtually for the past two years due to COVID-19. Over 35000 tech enthusiasts — including startup founders, business leaders, investors, scientists, journalists, and celebrities — partook in the four days scheduled for “The Olympics of tech”.

EMPOWERING STARTUPS

Like most industry events, Collision registered record attendance after being held virtually for the past two years due to COVID-19. Over 35000 tech enthusiasts — including startup founders, business leaders, investors, scientists, journalists, and celebrities — partook in the four days scheduled for “The Olympics of tech”.

While the media saw the withdrawal of mainstream technology giants and cryptocurrency companies as a loss, it meant that the attention shifted to smaller up-and-coming companies.

With a 50% surge, in number, from the previous edition, over 1500 startups presented their latest innovations in Toronto, seeing Collision as a vital step stone in their growth journey.

Reckon.ai counted on our funders to make the most of this trans-Atlantic experience. After coming across dozens of promising startups, investors, and peers, we envision great developments in the coming years.

THE BEGINNING: ALPHA

The conference developed a program that gave center stage to those companies on the rise, reinforcing its goal of promoting startups. The ALPHA program presented a unique opportunity for a select group of startups to attend the conference.

We had the privilege of being one of the selected ones. An enriching experience in all quadrants, we got to share our ideas in passionate but relaxed discussions in a fast-paced setting that resembles the one of an actual startup. The one we strive in.

PORTUGAL: SMALL IN SCALE, BIG IN IDEAS

Recent studies conducted by DEEP Ecosystems ranked Porto, our launch pad, as the 13th most popular startup city, with Lisbon being the 4th most popular.

With ample talent available in the vastest areas, Portugal has begun a new era where entrepreneurship is promoted, valued, and recognized domestically and internationally. This paradigm change was felt during Collision, where a delegation of Portuguese startups had the opportunity to network, showcase their products, meet the local community and boost their internationalizing efforts in North America.

The Portuguese entourage of over 30 entrepreneurs counted on the backing of Startup Portugal, Made of Lisboa, Galp Upcoming Energies, aicep Portugal Global and Web Summit. The synergy between these entities is the key ingredient to growing and completing this project, enriching the startup landscape.

It brought us great pride and a sense of accomplishment to see how rich the tech and startup ecosystems are. Here’s to next year’s edition
